Writing That Earns Marks

Extended response questions are the ones that separate students who know the material from students who can also communicate it clearly and in a structured way. They are typically worth eight marks or more and require a sustained, organised written answer.

Most students find extended responses the most demanding question type, not because the content is harder, but because the writing itself requires a different set of skills: planning before you write, structuring an argument, using evidence effectively, and reaching a conclusion that directly answers the question.
